  • 1946

    Moorabbin Airport site acquired by Australian Government.

  • 1949

    Airport opened on 5 December with first Air Traffic Control Tower.

  • 1960

    North/South strip gravelled and first roads built.

  • 1966

    Runways and Taxiways asphalted - increased air traffic. Construction commences in the new suburb of Dingley.

  • 1971

    Construction commences on industrial and factory areas surrounding the airport. Runway lighting installed.

  • 1977

    327,000 movements were recorded as an expanding economy and Commonwealth-subsidised aviation spurred many people to learn.

  • 1989

    National pilots strike - 395,000 movements recorded.

  • 1990

    Further airside development. Factory Outlet Store established.

  • 1998

    Airport privatised and Moorrabbin Airport Corporation formed. First Master Plan Approved. Chifley Business Park construction underway.

  • 2004

    Second Master Plan Approved. New developments proposed. Kingston Central Plaza established.

  • 2010

    Third Master Plan approved. 3000 plus jobs at Moorabbin Airport.
